Gym further embraces wellness post COVID: Reformer Pilates rollout commences for Genesis

  Dec 21, 2021

COVID-19 is changing a lot of things, including people’s approach to health and fitness, and as ‘wellness’ becomes a priority Genesis Health + Fitness has commenced a national rollout of Reformer Pilates classes.

Genesis Health + Fitness Windsor (QLD) and Thuringowa (Townsville) are the first gyms in the Australian chain to launch Reformer Pilates, offered in a boutique studio environment at a fraction of the usual cost for these types of classes.

According to a survey by national gym chain Genesis Health + Fitness, 54% of Australians have changed their approach to fitness and health this year as a result of the pandemic, with 64% focused more on wellness and how exercise makes them feel.

As part of the response to this shift, Genesis will roll out Reformer Pilates nationally allowing affordable access to a class that’s packed with benefits yet has been notoriously expensive and cost-prohibitive for many.

With only 12 – 16 Reformer Pilates machines in a Genesis studio, the small classes will cater to all ages and fitness levels, including pre and post-natal members, said Genesis Health + Fitness National Reformer Pilates Program Manager Beth Feigl.

“COVD-19 and lockdowns have really altered people’s thinking around fitness and health. Reformer Pilates is a low-impact, dynamic style of training that’s suitable for everybody and guaranteed to leave you feeling empowered and energised – that’s why we’ve chosen to make this class more available to people as we roll it out across Queensland and then across Australia.

“We’re using premium equipment and accessories that aren’t offered at other gyms – including platform extenders to ensure our Reformers are easy to use for all experience levels. Every class will be run by a qualified instructor, unlike some other gyms that are using video-based instruction.”

The Reformers are being supplied by Novofit.

Reformer Pilates will next launch at the first Victorian site (Box Hill) in December and then continue to roll out nationally in 2022, with WA clubs launching Q3 and NSW and additional VIC clubs in Q3/4.
